Tamil Nadu does not run one portal. Your category decides which site you apply on, and applying on the wrong one means your application does not exist. SC and ST students use the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare portal; BC, MBC and DNC students use the Backward Classes Welfare portal. Start checking the official site between September 2026 and October 2026.

Why this one matters

The split by category is invisible until you are on the wrong site filling a form that will never reach anyone. A first-generation graduate in Chennai has no way of knowing which of the two applies to them.

Where applications fail

Most rejected applications are not ineligible students. They are eligible students who missed a step.

SC and ST students apply at tnadtwscholarship.tn.gov.in. BC, MBC and DNC students apply at scholarships.tn.gov.in. These are different systems and there is no transfer between them.
Your college must verify your application after you submit it, and that deadline falls a month later. Submitting on time is not the same as being verified on time.
Payment is made by direct benefit transfer, so the bank account must be active and Aadhaar-linked. An unlinked account means an approved scholarship that never arrives.
For SC and ST students at self-financing colleges, the institution itself must be registered on the state portal. If it is not, you are ineligible regardless of your own eligibility.
