Why this one matters
Families ask about BITS because it is private but not purchasable. Admission is decided by one number, which makes it predictable in a way most private institutions are not, and it is why students with a strong BITSAT and no connections still get in.

Where applications fail
Most rejected applications are not ineligible students. They are eligible students who missed a step.
- Admission is on BITSAT score alone, so a strong board result does not compensate for a weak BITSAT, though a minimum board percentage is required to be eligible at all.
- Campus and branch allotment runs on preference and score. Students who list too few preferences can score well and receive nothing.
- Fees are substantial and there is no central government subsidy. Plan the funding route before the result, not after.
If this one is not for you
Being ruled out of a scheme is not the same as having no options. Here is what is still open.
- Missed the BITSAT cut? The NITs and IIITs admit on JEE Main rank, and state engineering entrances reach state quota seats at much lower fees.
- Want private without an entrance gamble? Several deemed universities admit on their own tests with wider intakes, though management quota does exist there.
- Funding the concern? CGFSEL covers collateral-free borrowing up to Rs 7.5 lakh, and PM Vidyalaxmi applies if the institution is on the QHEI list.
