AIIMS and central medical institutes
The central government medical institutions, admitted through the same national entrance as every other medical seat.
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare · India
Open now, no closing date announcedAdmission through NEET UG, with counselling by the Medical Counselling Committee.
Why this one matters
There is no separate AIIMS entrance any more. Every medical seat in India, government or private, is filled through NEET, which means one exam decides everything and no second route exists.
What it covers
admission route. Levels funded: undergraduate, postgraduate.
Who can apply
- You must be a citizen of India
Where applications fail
Most rejected applications are not ineligible students. They are eligible students who missed a step.
- All India quota and state quota are separate counselling streams with separate registrations. Missing one closes it entirely.
- Private and deemed medical seats also come through NEET counselling, so a NEET score is required even where fees are very high.
- Seat acceptance involves a security deposit and a bond in several states. Read the terms before accepting.
If this one is not for you
Being ruled out of a scheme is not the same as having no options. Here is what is still open.
- Did not clear NEET? Allied health, nursing, pharmacy, veterinary science and agriculture are all science routes with their own entrances and far less competition.
- Considering a foreign medical degree? Check the National Medical Commission's recognition and screening requirements before paying any agent.
- Want to retry? There is no upper limit on NEET attempts, but plan the drop year with a fallback in place.
