Get these ready before you start.
Most rejected applications are not ineligible students. They are eligible students missing one document, or holding one that expired. Here is what to collect, how long each takes, and the trap attached to it.
Aadhaar, linked to your bank account through NPCI
Needed for every scheme on this register
Scholarship money arrives by direct benefit transfer. An approved scholarship with an unlinked account simply never arrives, and the failure is silent.
- Issued by: UIDAI, linking done at your bank
- Valid for: No expiry, but the NPCI link must be active
- How long it takes: Linking takes a few days at the bank branch
- The trap: Having an Aadhaar-linked account is not the same as an NPCI-mapped account. Ask the bank specifically for NPCI seeding, not Aadhaar linking.
Income certificate
Needed for: Uttar Pradesh Post Matric Scholarship, Post Matric Scholarship (National Scholarship Portal), Telangana ePASS Post Matric Scholarship, Andhra Pradesh ePASS Post Matric Scholarship +4
Every income-capped scheme rejects at verification if the certificate has expired, and the rejection often comes after the deadline has passed.
- Issued by: Tehsildar, MRO or equivalent revenue authority
- Valid for: Three years from the date of issue in Uttar Pradesh; one year in several other states
- How long it takes: One to three weeks depending on the district
- The trap: The portal may accept an expired certificate at submission and the district welfare officer rejects it later. Check the issue date before you upload, not after.
Caste or community certificate
Needed for: Uttar Pradesh Post Matric Scholarship, Post Matric Scholarship (National Scholarship Portal), Telangana ePASS Post Matric Scholarship, Andhra Pradesh ePASS Post Matric Scholarship +3
In most states the certificate decides which department handles your application, and therefore which deadline applies to you.
- Issued by: Revenue authority competent for your state
- Valid for: Usually permanent, but the issuing format matters
- How long it takes: One to three weeks if you do not already hold one
- The trap: In Karnataka the certificate must carry a valid RD number. Without it the portal rejects the application automatically, with no human review.
One Time Registration number
Needed for: Uttar Pradesh Post Matric Scholarship, Post Matric Scholarship (National Scholarship Portal)
You cannot begin an application without it. It is a separate step before the form, and many students discover it on the last day.
- Issued by: The scholarship portal itself, using Aadhaar e-KYC
- Valid for: Permanent, one per student for life
- How long it takes: Same day, if Aadhaar details match your school records
- The trap: Only one OTR is permitted per student. Creating a second one because you forgot the first can get you debarred rather than simply corrected.
Your school or college listed on the portal
Needed for: Uttar Pradesh Post Matric Scholarship, Post Matric Scholarship (National Scholarship Portal), Tamil Nadu Post Matric Scholarship
If your institution is not in the portal's master database, you cannot apply at all, however eligible you are.
- Issued by: Your institution registers itself using its DISE or AISHE code
- Valid for: Must be active for the current year
- How long it takes: Days to weeks, and entirely outside your control
- The trap: This is the institution's job, not yours, and nobody tells you it has not been done. Ask the office to confirm the code is active before you start, not after you are rejected.
Your institution's verification, after you submit
Needed for every scheme on this register
A correctly submitted application that the college never verifies is a rejected application. This is the single most common way an eligible student gets nothing.
- Issued by: Your college nodal officer or principal
- Valid for: Deadline usually falls after the student deadline
- How long it takes: Chase it from the day after you submit
- The trap: The deadline everyone publishes is the student's. The one that decides whether you are paid belongs to your college, falls weeks later, and nobody tells you it exists.
Previous year's marksheet and current fee receipt
Needed for every scheme on this register
Renewals are rejected without proof that you passed and are enrolled. Several states also require a minimum percentage and no backlogs.
- Issued by: Your board or institution
- Valid for: Current cycle only
- How long it takes: Immediate if you have them, weeks if you need duplicates
- The trap: A backlog subject can void a renewal even when everything else is in order. Check your result carefully before applying for renewal.
Bonafide or study certificate from your institution
Needed for: Telangana ePASS Post Matric Scholarship, Andhra Pradesh ePASS Post Matric Scholarship, Karnataka SSP Post Matric Scholarship
State portals use it to confirm you are actually enrolled in the course you claim.
- Issued by: Your college office
- Valid for: Current academic year
- How long it takes: A few days from the college office
- The trap: Ask for it early in the term. College offices are swamped in the weeks before scholarship deadlines, which is exactly when you will need it.
